Newark UK On the campaign trail once again

Filed under: Blogroll, newark news, party matters — newarkresidentsviews @ 2:20 am

Up date 11th June 2009

Laurence Goff age 59

He believes in being an active  election for the good of Newark, dealing with the individual needs, and also providing a voice for the people all year round. He is married with two children lives in the Newark area.

Your view need to be heard loud and clear?

We are holding two  important local election in Newark.   I will build up a local knowledge if some thing like work man are digging up the road, I will be expected to know what they’re going to who long it will take if you phone me. I will be calling to many home in the next few weeks, if you would like a visit or a phone call please ring me 01636-681878 email laurencegoff@yahoo.co.uk

Some of my interest are safe guarding  Newark Cemetery many problems at many have included vandalism. I am a member and Vice Chairman Friends of Newark Cemetery will need to safe guard our Cemetery together. For 11 years I have been caring for the elderly people in Newark and member of St John Ambulance giving my support with first aider duties around the town. I have been a former Newark Town Council Councillor serving from 2004-2007. I have raised funds for the homeless charity Framework for the last few years.

LET’S ALL CYCLE TO WORK AND SCHOOL, WHICH IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
I cycled around Newark area, for 11 years. I will use my bike to visit many of you. Cycling is fun, green and healthy.

There are over 38 million empty seats on the UK’s roads every day. Why not ‘make the most of it’ by sharing lifts? There are over 38 million empty seats on the UK’s roads every day. Why not ‘make the most of it’ by sharing a lifts? 50% of commuters say they would be willing to share a car if they could find someone suitable to travel with. Commuters should be nice to bike riders.

The days are starting to get longer and the weather is getting warmer. There’s nothing better than passing these cars when the traffic is bad on Newark Road. More cycle track trails are needed in Newark, is a life line to people that cycle.

Cars have been racing racing around for years. Residents have voiced their concerns to me. No journey is urgent. Pedestrians’ Nightmare! Speeding has to be the No1 most dangerous activity you can embark on.

I believes passionately that, this country needs our MP’s and Council that reflects the spread of ages, ethnicities and gender which make up our diverse community.  This  includes and represents all the people.

I will be actively involved and committed to representing you wholeheartedly throughout the next few years together.

Getting involved in politics will be good for you and your community. Politics is about trying to make a difference to the way things work. There are many ways to get involved in politics, whether you are interested in campaigning on single issues, affiliating yourself with a particular political party or involving yourself in the local community.

A natural route into politics for many is to join a political party after 40 years I needed a change for good I have left my political party.  You align yourself with people of similar values and can get more opportunities to debate, campaign, influence the political agenda and mix with people in the political world.  The last decade or so has witnessed the emergence of a whole host of single issue groups on everything from the environment to the rights of car owners. The best way of finding people that shares your views is to look on the internet. Many groups regularly run campaigns and often contact you..

You may simply wish to make a practical difference at a local level, for instance by helping out at your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). CAB is one of the UK’s largest volunteer organisations and helps people with a whole range of issues such as benefits, debt management and immigration. You can find a variety of other local volunteering opportunities by visiting http://www.do-it.org.uk/ where voluntary positions can be found in anything from environmental and cultural schemes to youth work.

You may wish to get involved with one of the several residents’ associations in the constituency which address community issues and campaign for local people in and around Newark

Not everybody wants to join organisations or attend meetings, but there are still options open to those who wish to get involved. You can attend local political lectures and seminars. You may wish to start your own blog,  www.wordpress.com posting articles on political websites or sign online petitions. And, of course. The internet is also providing a new arena for political debate, and you  can always write directly to your local paper with your thoughts! If you are passionate about politics and want to universities to have a public lecture programme where you can listen to make a career out of it.

We should make an effort to help those less fortunate than we are – many people who will have nothing with which to celebrate each day.

Many will provides support and material help to people in crisis all year round from the Churches across  the UK give their support.

Volunteers will give lunch and food baskets to less fortunate other the year ahead. Let’s give an opportunity to provide a smile to all and everyone.

This new opportunity for our community to come together and reflect and give out our great community spirit to one and all alike. More people now live alone than ever before let’s give a helping hand. It is time to listen to the elderly or children crying out, who are living alone.

One more thing let’s phone a family or neighbour over this new year, check to see if an elderly friend living alone is ok.
More people now live alone than ever before.

Hopefully, that memory of this  message will be etched in each one of our us. Let’s reminds you not to drink and drive.  Celebrating for one and all every day.

LET’S DO THE RIGHT THING AND STOP THE BNP

Filed under: Blogroll, admin, newark news, party matters — newarkresidentsviews @ 1:45 am

LAURENCE GOFF

LET’S Stop the RACIST GROUP

Let’s stop them next time

The RACIST GROUP are now poised for a real political breakthrough in  our area, if we let them. The local elections also show that once the RACIST GROUP win a council seats. It takes longer to defeat them and makes it easier for them to gain more councillors.

The local elections confirmed the trend of rising  RACIST GROUP support, which has accelerated dramatically over the last few years. Preventing the BNP have 2 gains in the European Parliament and few more councillors since 2009.  It is crucial that we all work together next time.    The real story of this past elections though is how the BNP have become normalised with the electorate. THIS is now making a serious mark on all of us.

The political landscape in the East Midlands.
They contest a record number of seats in  June elections 2009 and we will need more people to come forward as potential candidates and activists. Now is the time to get
involved, be a part of history and help stop them being
elected in Nottinghamshire. A stain on our democratic way of life.

WE must stop the propaganda and preaching the hate message of racism. The racist group is notnot present itself as a mainstream political party concerned with immigration and crime. But it is not a legitimate party in the same sense as others.

Racism must not be allowed to flourish. The message must be received and understood, in every corner of our society, in our streets and prisons, in the services, in the workplace, on public transport, in hospitals, public houses and clubs, that racism is evil. It cannot co-exist with fairness and justice. It is incompatible with democratic civilisation.

Let’s stand up for respect, dignity and diversity
Politics will be very damaging as the racist BNP have won in  European and local election 0n 4th JUNE 2009 . The party exacerbates the social problems we already have, and causes new problems….Its appeal is insidious, divisive and dangerous. I do not think Christians should be silent or inactive.I encourages people to vote in  the general election that has to take place june 2010. I also urge people not to vote for candidates who promote racist policies.
We should practise and promote racial justice and inclusion and reject any political party that attempts to stir up racial and religious hatred and fear or asylum seekers.

We should be affected by the words of hate, these extremists will be bad for Newark,  Nottinghamshire across the UK. We must give our trust in the voters and stand up for jusice for all the people. We must bracing for backlash as voters give their verdict in 2010 around THE  UK and Nottinghamshire. In  and around the country the racists group are sensing a breakthrough. They will be fielding a record number of candidates for the UK Parliament next year.

Migration from around the World & Eastern Europe to the UK which has been good. We should not be frightened and most not ignore the hate message which will be dangerous for the  UK .

The political class as a whole is often frightened of engaging in the very difficult issues of race and the racist group can then exploits that and try and create the message of Racial hate. The reality which is that we need to promote its achievements these last few years we should be saying thanks for helping in the many factories around the UK.

In a democracy we should have all opinions. We should debate whether mass immigration has been good thing for the UK, I personal think so. NEWARK is thriving thanks to the many that come to our area to work. If we are going to counter The racist group we need to go out & engage in a very direct way with all our voters 2010.
I WILL be the first to stand up to them let’s stop the breakthrough of The RACIST BNP.

Yes to Weekend Voting for the UK

A consultation on whether to move elections to weekends has been launched as part of efforts to boost engagement in the democratic process.

In a bid to reverse falling turnout I believe that changing the day of the when the UK votes is a good thing. We should not be afraid to try a new voting day that fits in better with people’s busy lives, while also recognising the constraints of money and belief.

Local and European elections may be the first to be switched to weekends which is a good thing by reconnect politics with modern Britain. Elections have been held on Thursdays since 1945, although the only legal requirement is that they be held on weekdays. Before the Second World War voting took place on different days and the last general election held on a Saturday was in 1918.

I am absolutely in favour of weekend voting. It might be the very best way to solve the problem of why people don’t vote.

New car park charges make life a misery for residents

The introduction of new car park charges by Newark & Sherwood District is only going to exacerbate the problems that residents of the Sleaford Road/Newstead Avenue/Lawrence Street experience when trying to park near their homes.

Charges have been increased at all Newark car parks and have been introduced for evening and Sunday parking. Instead of paying the extra charges drivers are going to try to park for free in residential areas where parking is already a problem for residents. The incidents of dangerous parking near road junctions will also increase leading to injury and death to cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.

How long will it take for Newark & Sherwood District Councillors to wake up to the problems their short-sighted policy is causing?

Good and bad news about the Lawrence Street play area

The refurbishment of the Lawrence Street play area was finally completed recently. However last Friday evening 30th May 2008 I was outraged by a party invasion at the park.

I stopped to visit the play park just after 10am Saturday morning and witnessed the aftermath of this disgraceful attack such as discarded condoms and litter all around the new play park. I cannot comprehend the attitude of the kind of people who would do this. The majority of young people today are well-behaved. Once again it is the small minority  who ruin it for others.

Local neighbours were disturbed by the noise and are appalled at the damage and mess created by these vandals. I am appealing for witnesses so these people can be caught and stopped from causing this kind of problem again.

We need stress that the park is everyone space and each person has the responsibility of keeping it clean. Let’s ask the offenders to clear up their mess!!!

I think also with some of the young ones that were around there, it comes back to the parents of these teenagers knowing where they are at night, particularly after dark.

I have asked Newark and Sherwood District Council to cut back the shrubbery on the park so that visibility is improved.

Areas such as this should be patrolled daily by officers and police community support officers to discourage anti-social behaviour and criminal damage. I will be also carrying out routine patrols around the new play park which was been open for only a week. I will be taking my mobile phone with me to call police if needed.

We need your help and  that of the Council to ensure that the park is available for the use of everyone!

Let’s all walking with Martin Luther King Jr, in a time of faith, hope and non violence. 40 years on after his death.
I was just 18 at time of his death. Let’s remember the significance of Dr Martin Luther King’s untimely death 40 years ago. I have been watching documentaries of his life and listening to his speeches, and read many stories of his life.  I knew I wanted to be like him.
