MISS OUT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

I believe passionately that the highest kind of service a person can give to their community is serving

I also believe that Members of community have a moral duty to provide strong leadership to the younger generation and to prepare them for future roles & responsibilities.  Furthermore, we requires several strong and credible voices to promote the  inclusive approach that recognizes all people in all walks of life.

More bright, young under 35-year-olds are needed on local councils across the country to make them more representative of the area.

Council is risk becoming a Council for over 70’s, with increasingly ageing Councillors led by an unchallenged old guard.

We have just two who are under 28 on Newark Town council chamber.  Newark & Sherwood District Council we have non. We have a missing generation of people in the 18-30 age group.  Let’s put life into Newark town, let’s encourage younger talent around the Country.

Finding it hard to recruit candidates for local government talent is all around us we are just not looking in the right places.

Research shows the average age of councillors has risen to 57, with almost 40% retired. The average councillor in England and Wales is 57-years-old, white and retired, I am 59. Most are in there late 60’s or 70’s.

It is now time we be talent spotters of the young and those under 30 who have the potential to become local leaders  in a few years time.

We can’t see how someone in their 60’s or 70’s can easily represent the views of someone who is a teenager or in their 20s.
